So it is not necessary to kerchunk PRN ?

When I first turn on the radio in the morning I could just go straight to Mon All and would be able to hear any activity without kerchunking talk groups to activate them ? I was running the radio most of the day yesterday, since I am on spring break this week and at home most of the time, and I had kerchunked on 310 heard a couple of people talking and then switched over to Mon All. On Mon All I was still able to hear the conversation, but after a few minutes the radio did not make any noise the rest of the day, as though it had timed out. I'll play around with it some more today.

thanks for the information, that was definitely helpful

No traffic sounds about right to me.
Have had a MD-380 for years.
Finally gave up on listening.
Good luck with DMR.

thank you for that information, I was kind of leaning that way as far as there not being much traffic because I have been told that by some other people as well. But it is just that if I keep kerchunking on 310 there is somewhat regular traffic, alot of mobile users and hot spot people as well, but after 10 minutes or so I will no longer hear anything unless I kerchunk it again. I was hooping that I had done something in my radio settings or could adjust my timeout to be able to keep 310 open once I had kerchunked it once, but apparently not it is just how the system works in general. I'll play around with it some more today and figure out a way to confuse myself about something or other I am sure

I'm also going to try getting Brian's code plug and see if maybe I have an older one on this radio

Correct - 310 will time out, and no, you don't have to kerchunk PRN or local. Those are on full time. You are correct, there is no way to constantly monitor 310 without someone keying up on it (on the repeater you are on) about every 10 minutes to keep that audio stream open. There will probably be a little more PRN traffic tomorrow morning for the Charlotte Hamfest, but other than that it's somewhat quiet in our area.

Awesome, thank you so much, the radio is far less of a mystery to me now.
